Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Volunteering

The Friends of Cassiobury Park are pleased to support young people completing the Volunteering section of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, particularly at Bronze level.

How it works

We can help you contribute to keeping Cassiobury Park clean by providing:

  • Litter-picking grabbers
  • Litter collection bags
  • Advice on suitable areas of the park to litter pick

Volunteers typically litter pick for 1–2 hours each week over several months, allowing them to build up the required volunteering hours for their award.

Supervision

Please note that our litter-picking activities for DofE participants are not supervised by the Friends of Cassiobury Park.

Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent, guardian or another responsible adult throughout each litter-picking session.

Recording your volunteering

To enable us to verify your volunteering, we ask participants to:

  • Keep a record of the hours completed.
  • Send us occasional photographs from their litter-picking sessions as evidence of their volunteering.
  • Attend a few of our regular 3rd Saturday of the month litter picks.

Once you have completed the required volunteering hours, we will review your records and, where appropriate, validate and sign off your volunteering for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Borrowing equipment

We will arrange a convenient time for you to collect the litter-picking equipment and explain how to use it safely. Equipment should be returned once your volunteering has been completed, or sooner if no longer required.
